The Thunder Bay Museum has a large collection of historical clothing and textiles. They have been hosted, carefully, in the collection for nearly 30 years. However, this collection is in need of reorganizing, condition reporting, and cataloging. That is where I, Kate, come in. Over the next 8 months, I will be working on improving the conservation of the textile collection at the Museum. This project was made possible through an Ontario Job Creation Partnership and grant as well as a Museum Assistance Partnership grant. Throughout this endeavor I expect to find many interesting articles, learn wonderful stories about local people who once wore these clothes, gain much knowledge about museum cataloging and curatorial practices, and probably, find some very interesting details along the way.
